- In 1999, The Shrine of the Most Blessed
Sacrament
is a Temple consecrated to Almighty God, open to people of all
faiths. Visitors often remark that this Temple is “a true oasis
of silence and peace.” Twenty-four hours a day the nuns
adore our Lord present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Most
Blessed Sacrament.
- The Shrine and Monastery are situated on
approximately 380 acres of isolated farmland encircled by
the Mulberry
Fork of the Warrior River. An area of nineteen acres is located
behind the Monastery, surrounded by an enclosure wall. This
enclosed land is reserved for the use of the cloistered nuns.
- The two-mile approach to the Shrine
provides a period of recollection, allowing the soul a time
of
prayerful preparation. Many visitors feel that they are entering
a different world from the very first moment they arrive on the
grounds. Such is the power of the presence of God in this holy
place.
- The Romanesque-Gothic design of the
Shrine and Monastery was inspired by the great Franciscan churches and
monasteries of the 13th century, especially those of Assisi and the
region of Umbria in Italy. The exterior walls of the Shrine and
Monastery are of limestone composite bricks – a reminder of the
limestone walls of the Cave of Bethlehem.
- Upon first entering the Temple, one
becomes keenly aware of the awesome majesty of God. Visitors
often remark that as soon as they pass through the bronze doors they
are overcome with reverence and awe of God – in a spirit of prayer and
thanksgiving. Every feature of the Temple was specially thought out and
designed to give glory and honor to the Almighty. From the
adoring angels near the monstrance to the intricate marble floor, we
get a glimpse of how the Lord is infinitely worthy of all praise.
